Excessive Noise on Auckland's Customs Street

From Wednesday to Saturday most weeks, the clubs in Roukai Lane just off Customs Street East in Auckland — including the AV Club and Saturdays Britomart — play excessively loud music from early evening until 3:30 or 4:00 the next morning. So loud that you can hear it in area apartments with the windows closed. What's worse than the music is the incessant bass beat, which is loud enough to vibrate the window frames in apartments 10 or 12 stories up.

The owners and managers of the clubs don't seem to realise that the area is both commercial and residential. And they don't seem to care that about the health (physical and mental) of the residents in the neighbourhood.

Worse, the Auckland Council has only half-heartedly been responding to noise complaints. When the Council deigns to send an inspector, that person usually arrives after the clubs close. More often than not, no inspector is sent.

We can't be the only people who've noticed and been affected by the excessive noise from the AV Club and Saturdays Britomart. To combat this problem, we need as many residents in the area as possible to take action. It only takes a few minutes of your time.
